Apple Sets New App Store Submission Requirement for 2026

Apple has announced an upcoming requirement that will affect all developers submitting apps to the App Store. Starting April 28, 2026, all apps uploaded to App Store Connect must be built using Xcode 26 or later and include SDKs for the latest platform versions, including iOS 26, iPadOS 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, or watchOS 26.

This means that developers will no longer be able to submit new apps or updates built with older tools or SDK versions. This update applies to both new app submissions and app updates, meaning any build created with older SDKs will no longer be accepted after the deadline.

Why Apple Requires New SDKs

Apple regularly updates its minimum SDK requirements to keep apps aligned with the latest platform improvements. New SDKs typically include updated frameworks, performance enhancements, and changes related to privacy and security. Requiring developers to adopt these updates helps ensure that apps continue to function reliably across newer devices and operating systems. It also allows Apple to maintain a more consistent experience across the App Store.

What Developers Need to Watch For

Moving to a new SDK can introduce changes that require additional work. Some apps may rely on APIs that are no longer supported, while others may experience differences in how certain features behave on newer operating systems.

In some cases, user interface elements may need adjustments, and integrations with third-party tools may require updates. Apps that have not been updated recently are more likely to encounter compatibility issues during this transition.

Although the deadline is set for late April, preparation should start early. Updating development environments and testing apps on the latest SDK can reveal bugs, crashes, or layout inconsistencies. Teams planning releases around this time should allow extra time for testing and fixes to avoid delays or rejected submissions.

A Routine but Important Update

While Apple introduces similar requirements each year, these updates remain an important part of maintaining quality across the ecosystem. They ensure apps stay compatible with the latest devices and meet current platform standards, making it essential for developers to stay aligned with Apple’s requirements.
