If you\u2019re like any of us at The ASO Project, then you\u2019ve already had the new iOS live on your phone for a few hours (or you\u2019ve had the beta for a few months). Regardless, it\u2019s exciting times in the app world. Anybody else feel like it\u2019s Christmas in September? In our excitement over iOS13, we noticed something funny happening with the search tab in the App Store.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>What are users seeing on the\u00a0Search Tab?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>When we pulled up the search tab on iPhone X, it looked pretty similar to how the search tab has always looked. You\u2019ve got your typical \u201ctrending\u201d words. However, take another look. At first glance, these look like trending keywords. \u201cToon blast\u201d, \u201ccandy crush\u201d, \u201cmobile legends\u201d, \u201cheads up\u201d, \u201cyoutube\u201d but in reality these aren\u2019t &#8220;keywords&#8221;, they are actually just trending app names.<\/p>\n<p>Now check out the App Store on iPhone 8. We&#8217;re seeing two separate lists, one titled \u201cExplore Apps\u201d and the other \u201cExplore Games.\u201d When you click on any of the &#8220;keywords&#8221;, it still takes you to search results, so you do have the option to explore other apps (and see ads).<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re not done yet though. Now, take a peek at an iPhone 7 Plus. We\u2019ve got the same apps as the iPhone 8. But check out how they\u2019re listed. In contrast to the iPhone 8, the iPhone 7 Plus search tab takes you straight to the suggested apps. You also have the option to download the apps straight from the suggested list because these apps are displayed with the app icon, title and subtitle along with the &#8220;Get&#8221; button. There\u2019s also no separation between games and apps.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0Tapping on the app opens they app&#8217;s page, and the &#8220;Get&#8221; button downloads the app directly from the\u00a0Search tab.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Take a look at the screenshots below:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2013 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/search-tab-ios13-1024x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/search-tab-ios13-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/search-tab-ios13-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/search-tab-ios13-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/search-tab-ios13.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As with any new iOS version, iOS13 is bound to need a few tweaks. We already know iOS13.1 is coming in the next week or so. Maybe we\u2019ll see the App Store across devices become more similar, but could Apple be split testing the App Store across its different devices? Or it could choose to keep this slightly bizarre divergence across devices.
