Fortnite is riding high on the brand recognition and viral popularity of the game. Everyone from serious to casual gamers can get into it and play. But let&#8217;s look at Fortnite&#8217;s ASO efforts to determine if there&#8217;s opportunity to grow organic installs.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><b>Title and Subtitle<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The word \u201cFortnite\u201d is 8 characters long, leaving a lot of empty space that could be utilized by keywords. There is easily space to add keywords (like \u201cbattle royale\u201d 52\/100 volume and Fortnite ranks outside of the top 50!) that Fortnite should be ranking highly for. By sticking to just their game name, Fortnite is taking itself out of the running for other high volume keywords that would improve their conversion rates.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019d usually next take aim at an app\u2019s subtitle but\u2026 Fortnite doesn\u2019t have one! It\u2019s been said before and I\u2019ll say it again: your subtitle is extremely important for keyword rankings. You can\u2019t just leave it blank. This is a place where Fortnite can add in some additional high volume keywords. When we look at &#8220;generic&#8221; (non-brand) search terms, Fortnite doesn\u2019t rank terribly well for keywords like \u201cbattle royale\u201d (52\/100 volume) or \u201cpvp games\u201d (39\/100 volume) \u2014 keywords that a pvp, battle royale, first person shooter game should be ranking for. With Fortnite&#8217;s extremely high install volume, they would definitely jump up in ranking positions for a lot of these terms.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1787 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Titlesubtitle-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"5625\" height=\"2436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Titlesubtitle-1.png 5625w, https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Titlesubtitle-1-300x130.png 300w, https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Titlesubtitle-1-768x333.png 768w, https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Titlesubtitle-1-1024x443.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 5625px) 100vw, 5625px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><b>Screenshots and video<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Fortnite ops for horizontal screenshots \u2014 which makes sense given that the app is horizontally based. However, their screenshots feature small callout text and seems to focus mainly on gameplay. Their callouts don\u2019t quite fully explain what\u2019s happening in the screenshots. Blowing up the text callouts and adding context to the screen can go a long way for attracting user attention.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1791 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Screenshots-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"5625\" height=\"2436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Screenshots-2.jpg 5625w, https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Screenshots-2-300x130.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Screenshots-2-768x333.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.theasoproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Screenshots-2-1024x443.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 5625px) 100vw, 5625px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fortnite\u2019s app listing does have a preview video. Since the video is horizontal, users don\u2019t see the screenshots in App Store Search. But this doesn\u2019t mean that screenshots aren\u2019t still important.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><b>Search Ads<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>While Fortnite is a massively popular game, with strong brand recognition, there&#8217;s definitely an opportunity to further their growth with Apple Search Ads. Searching for &#8220;Fortnite&#8221; results in consistent ads for competitors. Keeping a close eye on cannibalization, Fortnite may benefit from defending their direct brand searches.\u00a0If Fortnite hopes to maintain the momentum that they\u2019ve had on the App Store thus far, then they\u2019d be wise to up their Search Ads.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fortnite doesn&#8217;t seem to be focusing on Apple Search Ads, but even running some re-targeting campaigns may help to acquire previous players who deleted the app.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When Fornite first hit the App Store, it experienced explosive growth.
